The lease is signed and construction is well under way! The shared-use agreement has been finalized and signed with AISU, and the school year is off to a roaring start according to reports from the school. The framing for the nursery and auditorium is in full swing and the administrative offices are close to being finished and occupied. Check back here frequently for updated pics of the progress and any breaking news.

That Was Then...

"The call was clear… Sell your homes, quit your jobs, leave your family and friends and move to Salt Lake City to start K2 the Church. Why? Because everyone matters to God. I remember thinking, “There are people we don’t even know yet, whom God has on His heart, and He wants them to be in eternal relationship with Him.” Now I can look back over the last 9 years and those imaginary faces are real people like Rachel, Dave, John, Mary Lynn, Allison, Brandon and the list goes on and on…

There were 35 of us who responded to the call to move here, but we knew from the beginning we weren’t going to stay at 35. That’s not God’s plan for the church. He loves the world and Jesus is constantly building His church one life at a time.

THIS IS NOW…

"It’s 9 years later and some 1300 people are coming through K2’s doors every week. And here is what I believe: God has only begun to reveal His purpose for K2 the Church in this city. There are still hundreds of thousands here who do not know how much they matter to God. And If God wants to bring more people through our doors to meet Him, something has to change.

Our present location has been a huge blessing from God. But now there is no room for any more kids, flipping services back and forth hinders the worship experience and the lobby space begs people to get out instead of to stay and get connected. Everyone matters and so we’re searching for a place that clearly communicates that to the people of this valley.

THIS will always be…

We’re a church that believes everyone matters to God. That’s never going to change. We have been so amazed at how much we matter to Him that we’ll follow Him anywhere and do anything He wants us to do.

Will you join us as we join Him in His effort to love everyone in this valley? As you watch the videos and read the rest of the material in this packet, do it with a heart that is open to God. Pray about what you hear and read, and let him lead you. He wants you to share in His adventure of redeeming the world. Simply be willing to do what He says and I believe you’ll discover in a profound way that you matter to Him, too.

What happened with Discover More funds? Seven years ago our capital campaign Discover More raised nearly $3M. The funds allowed us to expand our current campus and to launch our south campus. Because of this many thousands of adults, children and teens have been affected by the good news of Jesus. We have put all our spaces to good use, serving people who matter to God with every square inch on the weekend. We also share our facilities with other organizations such as schools, other churches, and local events. We have simply outgrown these spaces.

What am I giving to? K2’s new home. For years we have been searching for a place where we can grow with plenty of seating, parking, and places for our kids and teens to thrive. Because everyone matters, there will be no end to the number of people we could potentially reach with God’s message of love, hope, grace and truth. The gifts you give will help us secure a new home for the next decade and beyond. We are also giving 10% of everything given in this generosity campaign to our Luv•o•lu•tion partners and reaching out beyond our walls locally, regionally and globally.

Why does K2 The Church need a new home? The logistics of having two small auditoriums, cramped children’s and student space, lack of meeting spaces, and limited parking create many challenges. If any church with 1300 in attendance were looking for a new location to move, they would definitely not pick our current location. We simply don’t have room for everyone we need to reach.

What kind of property are we hoping to get? Currently K2 ministers to 1300 people each Sunday, in about 30,000 SF in three buildings on 2.5 acres, a miracle by most church standards. We are seeking a place that gives us a 1200 seat auditorium, and an additional 40,000-50,000 SF of ministry space.

Is it just about a bigger building and more stuff? If you’ve been around K2 long enough, you know that it isn’t about the building, but about the people who come to the building. Our desire is to have a place where more people can come and experience God in a way that is unique in the valley. Yes, we’ve always strived for excellence in the arts (and everything we do), but arts aren’t at stake here. We’re not going for bigger, badder or “K2 Extreme”. The issue is making absolutely certain that we have a seat, a parking spot and a place in Adventure Canyon for every single person, family or child that comes through our doors - something we don’t have today. Are we planning to lease or buy? There are advantages and disadvantages to both. What the leadership at K2 is trying to do is find the most economical way to acquire a new home that gives us flexibility for growth in the future. Currently we are exploring both scenarios. We are taking steps of faith daily to close a deal for our new home.

What are the advantages of leasing? There is no doubt that 10 years ago we had no idea of how big K2 would be. We started with about 35 people and last year 6,500 individuals walked through our door. Frankly, we have no idea what the next 10 years will bring. Leasing would allow the flexibility to grow, and better understand what God is asking us to do.

What are the advantages of buying? Buying would allow us to have a more permanent home for a longer period of time. We have looked at dozens of properties over the last few years, and are currently considering a few options. The challenge we have faced with buying is the high cost of purchasing and construction, and the fact that there are very few pieces of property that are large enough to allow for growth.

What about our mission to plant churches? We believe the next season at K2 will be filled with opportunities to plant churches. It continues to be at the forefront or our prayers to be a force for multiplying churches in Utah. As we grow, we will develop plans to reach beyond the walls of K2 into new communities.

When I came to k2, I knew that I mattered. So I made a decision to not just be a visitor, but to connect with a vision BIGGER than myself.

WOnce I started serving on the Arts Team, I got to see how many people it takes to make Sunday mornings work at K2. Everyone of them matters, too. It made me think, “Why would so many people get up as early as 6:00am on a Sunday?” It’s because people matter to them. Every person has a reason and a purpose for their existence.

God cares for each one of us just as he cares for the sparrows. In the book of Matthew, we’re told that sparrows are worth very little yet not one of them falls to the ground without God knowing. How much more valuable we are to God. We matter so much that he knows the number of hairs on our heads! Everyone who enters the doors at K2 matter to our Lord and we must love one another just as He loves us. It’s not important how a person is dressed or what their circumstances are. Each and everyone is of value to God. He is there for us…all we have to do is seek and believe in him!

There is no formula or quick accounting tricks. The truest measure of giving to God is not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice. Not everyone has one million dollars to give, but everyone has resources to invest in what God is doing at K2 the Church.

You can embark on a spiritual journey through making a financial commitment to God and others. This information will help you to take faith steps, connect with God, discovering His will, and draw closer to him in new ways.

Will you ask God for direction? Everything we do starts with God. He is inviting you to join him in reaching people. Seek Him. Ask Him. Find out what His plan is for you.

income stream giving: Giving as you receive income – whether weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually, as a bonus, or in other time frames.

sacrifice: Changing your life or your lifestyle in order to create resources for giving not only frees additional resources for giving but could also lead to profound spiritual re-orientation and renewal.

delaying expenditures: Expected purchases might be postponed so that those funds could be given.

freedom from debt: Resources resulting once debts are paid can become a source for giving.

charitable giving review: Reviewing all of your charitable donations and comparing their impact with the importance of K2’s ministries may encourage you to consolidate some of your giving into this particular mission for a particular time frame.

income producing assets: Interest earned, income from rental properties, or monies from other income producing assets can be dedicated and donated giving.

TIME AND TALENT

additional income: Using your skills and talents, taking on additional work, or delaying retirement could produce additional income to use as a gift.

GIVING APPRECIATED ASSETS

If an investment – like stocks, real estate and other assets – has increased in value since its purchase and been held for more than one year, then there may be significant tax advantages to transferring ownership of that asset to the church as a charitable donation. Giving the appreciated asset eliminates potential capital gain taxes for the donor while still allowing the donor to receive the contribution credit for the current market value of the asset. Because of its tax exempt status, the church can sell the asset and receive full market value less transaction costs.
